The Weeknd, a longtime anime fan, won the top award for anime of the year. My Hero Academia FINAL SEASON. Other presenters included RZA, a founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan. Puerto Rican rapper/singer Young Miko. and K-pop stars BamBam and TEN.
The Crunchyroll Anime Awards recognize the creators, musicians, and performers who promote the global love of anime. According to Crunchyroll, a record 73 million votes were cast by fans around the world this year. The ceremony, now in its fourth year, was hosted by voice actor Sally Amaki and entertainer John Kabila.
The event began with a video introducing past Anime of the Year award-winning works, with music arranged by Kazunori Miyake and performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Hirofumi Kurita.
The event also included musical performances and a tribute to anime’s lasting impact on popular culture. Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi performs a tribute to the 30th anniversary of the 1995 anime Neon Genesis Evangelion The theme is “A Cruel Angel’s Thesis.” Porno Graffitti presents commemorative performance my hero academia10th anniversary. Rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION performs the opening theme for the second season of the Shonen series, “Haruka Kanata” NARUTO.
At the award ceremony, director Tatsuya Nagamine received the Global Impact Award. He passed away at the age of 53 on August 20, 2025, after a year-long battle with an undisclosed illness. Masayuki Sato — Animator who worked closely with Nagamine on numerous projects. Happiness Charge Precure! and one piece — won an award.
The Anime Awards pre-show was co-hosted by Crunchyroll hosts Lauren Moore and Tim Liu, along with YouTube creator Giguku. Presenters included singer DANNA, contemporary musician Ethan Bortnick, Australian singer-songwriter Hannah Byrne and creative cosplayer Snitchery.
A video-on-demand version of the ceremony will be streamed on Crunchyroll and Crunchyroll’s YouTube channel, as well as Sony Group Corporation Global and Japan’s YouTube channels. Sony Music Solutions Inc., part of Sony Music Entertainment Inc., and Dempsey Productions supported Crunchyroll in the execution of the event.
