Terrified passengers on a UK flight were forced to exit down emergency slides after a suspected vape pen exploded on their flight, filling the cabin with smoke.

“I could smell it and see smoke coming towards us from the front of the plane, so I asked my dad, ‘Is this protocol?'” Griffith told Storyful. “Well, a girl ran down the knapsack, out of the smoke, and there was a loud noise, the sound of flames, which caused a fright.”

An EasyJet spokesperson tells Fox News Digital that flight EZY8216 was evacuated during boarding before take-off “due to a fire in a passenger’s bag.”

“Fire services attended the aircraft and cabin crew evacuated the aircraft in accordance with procedures,” the spokesman said.

“Customers were cared for at the airport while another aircraft and crew were scheduled to fly customers home later that day. Safety is our number one priority.”

The company did not say what caused the bag to catch fire.

Passengers were later allowed back on the plane to collect their luggage and there was a sign of fire on the ground, according to the Daily Mail.

The gem reports that no passengers were hurt in the explosion, although one passenger was burned by the exit slide.

European passengers are allowed to take e-cigarette devices on planes, and charging them while on board is prohibited, according to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) also allows smoking electronic devices in luggage as long as the batteries are removed.
