Baojong rode a bicycle to the China-EU Center for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE), Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan. It was a 6.5 km trip, reducing carbon emissions by about 1.3 kg.

The institute is an example of EU-China cooperation in the fields of education and scientific research. Baojong learned how the international academic environment and advanced research centers provided by ICARE train professionals with conceptual knowledge and practical experience in clean energy and develop ideas and solutions to global challenges strength. While visiting the Institute’s laboratories, Baojong learned about some of the latest developments in clean energy technology. This technology is expected to provide new solutions for the world’s energy problems. He saw a wall of achievements showing a series of achievements by the Center under the framework of EU-China cooperation. EU-China’s Journey to a Sustainable Energy Village: The Rural Sustainable Energy Network Project

Location: Jing’an City, Zhangye, Gansu Province

On this trip, Sun Fengren rode a bicycle on a rural and rural road in Jing’an City, Zhangye for 10 kilometers, saving 2 kilograms of carbon.

During this visit, Sun Fengren got an insight into the “Rural Sustainable Energy Integrated Network Project” (RurEnergy Project), a cooperative effort under the EU-China partnership. Implemented within the EU’s Switch-Asia Programme, the project aims to promote the transition to sustainable energy in rural areas. The EU and China are jointly supporting the implementation of the project by providing technical assistance, business model improvements, and financial studies. The project team incorporated advanced European technologies and used successful examples from other Chinese provinces to improve the project’s impact.

In an interview with Sun Fengren, the project team leader emphasized that the project has greatly improved local life. Technologies, such as solar thermal systems, have improved the quality of heating and reduced environmental pollution. Sun Fengren, in his interviews with residents, noted a notable improvement in daily comfort since the adoption of renewable energy.

Sun Fengren believes that this project not only improves the development of energy for rural areas, but also promotes the use of renewable energy, effectively reducing dependence on coal.
