CUT officially launches a Research Center on Human-Technology Interaction
The Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) has officially launched a Research Center on Human-Technology Interaction to explore the evolving relationship between people and technology. This initiative is designed to address the opportunities and challenges posed by rapid technological progress, emphasizing the need for ethical solutions.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal Prof. Pamela Dube explained the strong vision of this center, saying that technology should serve humanity, not the other way around. He emphasized the social, moral, and environmental consequences of rapid technological development. “The launch of this center marks the beginning of a transformational journey for the university and the community. In an age where technology permeates every aspect of our lives, it’s easy to focus on the wonders of innovation, creativity, artificial intelligence, and the convenience that comes with every breakthrough. of technology. However, as much as technology empowers us, it also presents serious challenges that require a careful and human-centered approach. This is where the Center for Research on Human-Technology Interaction plays an important role. “
He also stated that the foundation of this center is their commitment to multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration with industry partners, government agencies, local communities and international partners. “By strengthening these relationships, we will ensure that our research remains relevant, impactful, and aligned with real-world societal needs. This observation is supported by Dr. Daphne Mashile-Nkosi, Founder and chairperson of Kalagadi Manganese who generously donated R10.9 million to establish and further develop the facility. He spoke of the importance of the project as a beacon of knowledge that encourages collaboration and produces impactful discoveries.
