Kourtney Kardashian has a ‘Natural Ozempic’ for weight loss. Is it a scam?

Of all the Kardashian sisters, if there’s one who’s always known for her matcha tea, makeout sessions with her husband, and her ‘healthy lifestyle’, it’s the eldest Family – Kourtney Kardashian Barker. So, when he launched his lifestyle website, Poosh, in 2019, it came as no surprise. And when he entered the supplements, he said that he was promoting healthy life, he felt it was just right.

However, despite the financial success of his brand, Lemme faced a lot of criticism from experts due to his exaggerated claims about the benefits of supplements, and the fact that the products his are not approved by the FDA.

The latest addition will be Lemme’s GLP-1 Daily.

‘The natural Ozempic’

Before we tell you about natural Ozempic, let us tell you what Ozempic is and how it actually works.

  • Ozempic is a drug used to help people with type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar and as one of its side effects, it causes people to lose weight, which is why it popular among people who want to lose weight.
  • It works by mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which helps the body release insulin when blood sugar is high.
  • It also slows down digestion and makes you feel fuller for longer, so you eat less.
  • For this reason, many people have found it useful for weight control, even though it was originally designed for the treatment of diabetes.
  • Wegovy, Rybelsus, and Trulicity are other drugs that work similarly to Ozempic and are approved for weight loss.
  • However, Ozempic is the most popular, thanks to celebrities like Elon Musk, who have spoken about its benefits.

Now back to this, the GLP-1 hormone, which is the star of the drug. How does it work? Simply put, the longer it is in your body, the fuller you will feel.

So, when Kourtney launched her own brand of weight loss supplement, she named it Lemme GLP-1 and people on the internet started calling it ‘natural ozempic’.

“Since Lemme launched, we have heard from thousands of you who are looking for a natural GLP-1 solution without side effects. That’s why we created Lemme GLP-1 Daily,” Instagram post Lemme’s post says.

What are the potential benefits of Lemme GLP-1?

Kourtney’s Lemme GLP-1 Daily claims to be natural (of sure that) and comes with a price tag of Rs 7,500 for 30 capsules. Here is the list of ingredients:

  • Eriomin (lemon fruit extract)
  • Supresa (saffron product)
  • Morosil (red-orange fruit mix)

According to Lemme’s website, its GLP-1 supplement can:

It boosts GLP-1 production, reduces hunger and cravings, promotes fat loss, and supports blood sugar levels. It also claims to help with healthy weight management.

The company recommends taking these supplements with food twice a day to help support your weight management goals.

According to Lemme: In the first to two months, it will reduce hunger; in the third month, it will increase GLP-1 levels; and in six months, it will contribute to ‘healthy weight management’.

The company also claims that this product has no side effects as it is made from all natural ingredients.

But what do the experts say?

India Today analyzed the main ingredients of the supplement and talked to different experts and they all seem to agree that although the product may help with weight management, there is no connection between the ingredients and the GLP-hormone 1.

Let’s break down the basic ingredients one by one.

Eriomin

Dr. Tushar Tayal, consultant in Internal Medicine at CK Birla Hospital, Gurugram, explains that Eriomin is an extract from lemon that targets blood sugar control.

He says that a clinical study published by the National Institutes of Health showed that Eriomin can help reduce fasting blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity, which supports the idea of helping to maintain blood sugar levels. in the usual way.

“However, there is little direct evidence supporting the reduction of fat and the increase of GLP-1,” says Dr. Tayal.

Supresa (saffron product)

Another major Lemme GLP-1 supplement is Supresa, which is derived from saffron. Debjani Gupta, nutritionist and health expert, says Supresa is a clinically studied, fast-acting ingredient that can enhance any weight management diet.

“From the flowers of a special species of Crocus sativus (saffron), Supresa offers a unique way of supporting weight loss by boosting the neurotransmitter serotonin and reducing the desire to snack between meals ,” says Debjani.

However, he also states that there is no evidence linking saffron to increased levels of GLP-1.

Morosil (red orange fruit image)

Dr Tayal says that Morosil is rich in anthocyanins, which are antioxidants, and some studies suggest that Morosil can help reduce fat and control body weight by regulating fat metabolism and possibly reducing the size of fat cells.

“Also, there is no strong evidence linking Morosil to increased GLP-1 levels,” says Dr. Tayal.

The final decision

Dr. Tayal concludes that Kourtney’s new supplement may help reduce appetite and may help with weight loss, but there isn’t much evidence that it will help increase the GLP-1 hormone.

Debjani goes on to say that although the individual ingredients in Lemme GLP-1 Daily appear to be safe and natural, there are no studies on “the specific combination of the three ingredients”.

He says it can cause other side effects including gastrointestinal distress such as diarrhea, gas and bloating.

“With no studies or research papers scientifically validating the product, Lemme GLP-1 Daily is an over-the-counter supplement that does not have the same level of scientific evidence as prescription GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy,” he added.

More robust clinical studies are needed to fully understand the long-term benefits and potential risks of Lemme GLP-1 Daily. It is very important before it is easily available for the masses, like any supplement that has found a place in our kitchen cupboards.

Dr. Vaishali Naik, an endocrinologist at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai says, “One should not use supplements mindlessly as there is no data or evidence regarding their safety and efficacy or any side effects. that they can produce.”

He also added that it is not known whether the supplement has been widely studied and approved by experts or recommended as safe for human use.

“Taking supplements without thinking can lead to irreversible consequences. It is better to be careful and avoid trying any supplement on your own. Make sure you consult a doctor who will decide The right treatment plan for you depends on your overall health. Losing weight will require a balanced lifestyle that includes a healthy diet, exercise, and stress management techniques. ,” Dr Naik concludes.
